Within an hours drive of Swan River are multiple very targetable populations of walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, lake whitefish, burbot, rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout, tiger trout, arctic char, splake and lake trout. Worth mentioning is some less popular (but equally as fun) species such as freshwater drum and common carp; the list goes on and on.

Record Breaking Catches
Whether your quest is to become a Master Angler or to dangle a line on a sunny summer afternoon of family fishing, the Swan Valley offers deep, clear lakes, fast-flowing streams, and trophy fish in any of a half-dozen or more species. Deep down in cool, spring-fed lakes dwell prize-winning Walleye Monster pike are found lurking in the water. The patient fly fisherman is often rewarded with a brown or rainbow trout measuring up to 75 cm (30 inches) or more.

Swan Valley Sport Fishing Enhancement Inc. (SVSFE) is a community group focused on the many aspects of recreational angling in and around the Swan Valley for over 30 years. Popular recreational angling opportunities include the various tributaries of Swan Lake. For more remote experiences, the Porcupine Mountains present some astounding ‘hidden gem’ angling opportunities. In the southern escarpment, the Duck Mountain Provincial Park provides some of the best trout-angling prospects in the Province of Manitoba.
